Out of the Crayon Box: Thoughts on Teaching, Retirement, and Life Customer Reviews
:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Brad D'emidio -- A thoughtful, well-written and witty story : Out of the Crayon Box by Debra VanDeventer is a thoughtful, well-written and witty story I highly recommend. VanDeventer shares the story of her career, its successful, and not so successful experiences moving through an ever-changing landscape of academic and personal growth up to her personal struggles with retirement. Letting go of her past and everything that had made sense and embracing new beginnings and everything they offer. Retirement is a tricky business. Some find it easy, while others struggle to make sense of it and a new future. Debra gently guides the reader through those struggles with humor and wit, ending up in a new place just as enjoyable, (if not more so) even if getting there is a bit frightening. While this story is relatable to new, or soon to be, retired teaching professionals, anyone experiencing this life change can benefit from reading her clever relatable story. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Donna Fisher -- Like having a cup of coffee with a friend! : Debra VanDeventer has written a special memoire that makes you feel as if you are sitting across from a friend sipping on a cup of coffee or tea. Parts make you laugh out loud, reminisce, and empathize with the ups and downs of teaching. And then the afterlife. Having just retired from teaching, this book sparks lots of memories, and some wonderful suggestions for transitioning to a new beginning.
